Ministry Rejects Social Media Rumor about High Fatality Rate of Children who Consume Sugary Drinks

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Health addressed a social media post that has been circulating which claims that 20 children die every day from consuming too many soft drinks. The ministry says the claim is patently false and asked authorities to take legal action against the dissemination of false information.

Although the Ministry denies this information, a study by experts says that consuming high-sugar drinks can pose a serious risk to human health. Recently, a boy in Prey Veng province died after excessive intake of sugary drinks, leading to kidney failure after his family could not afford the dialysis needed to keep him alive.
